Reed & Mackay Will Provide "Improved" Emissions Information To Customers

News

A new agreement between London-based TMC Reed & Mackay and carbon emissions platform Squake will allow the company to provide "improved" sustainability to its clientele.

Travellers will be able to evaluate the effect of their travel options and make informed decisions at the point of sale because of Reed & Mackay's capacity to compile CO2 emissions and sustainability comparative data across air, train, hotel, and auto rental.

Squake's carbon data will be made available via Reed & Mackay's online and mobile booking, approval engine, and reporting suite through an application programming interface. Additionally, it may be accessed using the TMC's consultant scheduling system.

Booking agents and passengers will be able to assess flights based on emissions measurements as well as aircraft type, load factors, and route by using this data. Additionally, Reed & Mackay's policy engine will allow travel managers to "fine tune" their own unique CO2 criteria and impose limitations.

Before this change, TMC relied on a CO2 emissions conversion provided by the DEFRA (Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs), which provided a weighted average without allowing for direct comparison of alternatives.

Reed & Mackay’s CEO Fred Stratford commented about the new system:

“The introduction of Squake’s granular CO2 data into our booking platforms will allow our clients to further tailor their travel requirements to meet their sustainability goals and drive down their CO2 footprint.”

In addition to carbon assessments, Squake provides a number of ways to reduce emissions from air travel, such as purchasing carbon credits from reputable climate initiatives or donating to the development of more environmentally friendly jet fuel (SAF).

Reed & Mackay has already joined the UN Global Compact and formed a partnership with Neste via its parent business, TripActions. As part of the Science Based Objectives project, TMC has also pledged to establish targets for reducing carbon emissions, such as achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

ATG Travel Worldwide, located in the Netherlands, has recently made an announcement that it will be integrating with Squake's technology in order to provide carbon statistics to customers.
