Munich Airport opens new Terminal 1 pier
Munich Airport has officially opened its new Terminal 1 pier to passengers, marking a major milestone in the airport’s long-term expansion.
The facility began regular operations on April 21, welcoming more than 11,000 passengers and handling over 70 flights on its first day. Airport executives were on site to greet travelers as the new pier was integrated into existing Terminal 1 operations.
The first arrival at the new pier was a flight from Charlotte operated by American Airlines, which was welcomed with a traditional water salute. The first departure was a service to Detroit operated by Delta Air Lines. A special highlight of the opening day was the arrival of a retro-livery Airbus A350-900 from Cathay Pacific, marking the airline’s 80th anniversary.
The opening completes a construction project that has been underway for more than seven years. The pier was built alongside ongoing airport operations and underwent a six-month trial phase before entering full service.
Designed to improve efficiency and passenger flow, the new facility features modern architecture and updated infrastructure aimed at enhancing the travel experience.
Airport officials said the development reinforces Munich Airport’s position as a leading European hub, with a focus on delivering a more efficient and comfortable journey for passengers.
