Quarantine-Free Tourism in Thailand resumes
Vaccinated tourists no longer have to be quarantined when travelling to the country in Southeast Asia, as the Test&Go program has been reopened. More than 200,000 visitors are expected to enter Thailand this February alone.
The Test&Go initiative will apply to all tourists coming from any country. In order to use the program’s benefits, travellers have to be vaccinated, as well as check a few more criteria on the list.
Applications require either a full vaccination scheme or a recovery certificate for adults and at least one vaccine dose for children aged 12 to 17. In addition, a RT-PCR test must be taken 72 hours prior entering Thailand, while further testing will be necessary day 1 and day 5 of the stay. Travel insurance and downloading of the MorChana tracking app are also mandatory when visiting the country.
Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of the Thai Hotels Association, commented:
“It’s a fine balance between tourism recovery and public health. We have to create confidence among the Thai society as there’s still a large group of people hesitant about foreign travellers. If other nations are still hesitant they can come and look at the Thai Test & Go model.”
Previously closed in December due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, Test&Go is the quarantine-free entry program that authorities expect to significantly boost the country’s tourism rates.
With the resuming of T&G, Thailand prepares for 5 million international visitors this year, mostly from the U.S. and Europe. Moreover, 4 million more Chinese and Indian tourists are also expected to access the program’s benefits.
