New Night Rail Service To Link Major Cities

This collaborative effort involving major operators like SNCB, SNCF, Deutsche Bahn, and ÖBB has given birth to the NightJet trains by ÖBB, marking a new era of cross-border travel.

he Berlin-Paris route departs thrice a week from Berlin Hauptbahnhof, whisking travellers through scenic stops at Halle (Saale), Erfurt, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg before arriving in Paris Est the next morning at 10:24. The return trip from Paris leaves at 19:12, reaching Berlin by 8:26 the following day.

For those heading from Berlin to Brussels, trains set off on the same schedule, stopping at various picturesque locations before arriving in Brussels at 9:56. The return journey from Brussels sees trains arriving back in Berlin by 8:26 the next morning. Stops along this route include Halle (Saale), Erfurt, Frankfurt, Mainz, Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne, Aachen, and Liege-Guillemins.

Travellers have a range of ticket options, from seated cars starting at €34.90 to couchette carriages (€49.90) and luxurious sleeper carriages (from €79.90) equipped with private showers and bathrooms.

Andreas Matthä, ÖBB CEO, emphasized the expansion of night train services as a testament to their commitment to sustainable travel and the unification of Europe. This partnership aims to offer appealing and eco-friendly overnight travel options.

SNCB CEO Sophie Dutordoir highlighted their active investment in this night train project, supported by the Belgian government's financial aid to all railway companies providing night train services in the country.

SNCF Voyageurs CEO Christophe Fanichet hailed this Paris-Berlin route as a significant milestone in the resurgence of night trains, fuelled by French government funding. This new service builds upon the successful NightJet connection between Paris and Vienna, further enriching Europe's nocturnal travel offerings.
