Pieces of the wrecked submersible were found in Newfoundland, Canada

News

The US Coast Guard claims they found what they believe to be human remains in the debris from the Titan.

Titan, the submarine that imploded earlier this month while making its way to the Titanic, has reportedly yielded what are believed to be the remains of its passengers, as reported by the United States Coast Guard.

Remains found in the north Atlantic will be sent to a US port for a formal study by medical specialists, according to authorities.

The announcement came almost a week after officials said they had located the ship's remains during a multinational search and rescue operation. The Coast Guard reported last week that the five crew members aboard the submerged vessel were likely killed instantaneously in a "catastrophic implosion."

Officials in Newfoundland, Canada, claimed the wreckage of the ship will help them investigate the tragedy and provide answers to concerns about the ship's unproven design, lax safety measures, and lack of accreditation. On Wednesday, the Canadian ship Horizon Arctic unloaded large chunks of metal to St. John's that resembled parts of the Titan. The Coast Guard met with a number of specialists before beginning their search, and one of them suggested that studying the physical nature of any wreckage found would provide some useful information as to what happened to the Titan. Also, there could be digital records to consider.

The submersible was sent out into the ocean's depths from a ship on June 18 and failed to make contact with the surface an hour and 45 minutes later, prompting the recovery of twisted wires and other materials presumably related to the ship. The tragedy happened as experts in the field have long questioned OceanGate, the US firm that operated Titan, as well as its track record for safety.

Millions of people watched news reports to find out whether the submarine was located before its oxygen supply ran out. The whole world had been waiting for any sign of the ship when its remains were discovered on the ocean bottom not far from the Titanic catastrophe itself.

Titan was registered in the Bahamas, although its owner and operator, OceanGate Expeditions, is located in Everett, Washington. After the discovery of the Titan, the company that owned it went out of business.
