New Budapest-Varna route launched by Wizz Air
The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast city of Varna is now connected with Budapest Airport, via Wizz Air low-cost flights
With the new Budapest-Varna flights, the Budapest airport reopens the route between the two countries, which was previously closed in 2013, as Wizz Air will begin operating a twice-weekly flight to Bulgaria’s main touristic destination. The low-cost company’s strategy comes due to a significant growth in customer demand for the Bulgarian market.
By adding the new route, Varna will become the company’s 50th destination from the airport in the Hungarian capital, as the carrier already has plans for launching another 11 routes during this year.
With the occasion of the launch, Balázs Bogáts, head of airline development at Budapest Airport commented: “This year we will welcome Wizz Air’s 18 millionth passenger since the airline joined us here at Budapest in 2004. Celebrating the launch of our home-based carrier’s 50th destination is testament to our continued commitment with Wizz Air to strengthen tourism in Hungary and expand the choice of attractive destinations for our customers.”
Due to lack of any direct competition on the airport pair, the Budapest based carrier currently offers the ideal alternative for travelling to Bulgaria, by operating low-cost services directly to the three largest airports in the country: Bourgas, Sofia and now Varna.
