Negotiators warned not to “eat or drink”, after Abramovich suspected poisoning

News

Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has advised negotiators to refrain from eating and drinking during peace talks.

"I advise anyone going for negotiations with the Russian Federation not to eat or drink anything.

"And, preferably, avoid touching any surface. That’s at first-hand.

"Secondly, all these stories - someone heard something somewhere, some sources - now there is a lot of this kind, because everyone is thirsty for news, for sensations", Kuleba commented.

The statements came as the two countries will participate today in their first face-to-face peace talks since the Russian invasion started on February 24th and as claims about Roman Abramovich being poisoned in one of the meetings have recently emerged.

Despite Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) declaring the allegations are concerning, further statements from US intelligence suggested that poisoning was not involved in what happened to the negotiators, but rather other environmental factors.

Nevertheless, FCDO representatives declared:

“The UK will continue to assist by implementing tough sanctions on Putin’s regime, and by providing defensive and humanitarian support to help put Ukraine in the strongest possible negotiating position.”
