Lufthansa Group Announces Major Executive Board Reorganization

Airlines & Airports

Lufthansa Group's Supervisory Board has approved a significant restructure of its Executive Board, reducing its size and appointing new members to drive the next development phase.

The Lufthansa Group is setting the stage for its future growth and strategic development with a comprehensive reorganization of its Executive Board. This decision comes after the airline successfully navigated through the challenges of the corona crisis and the subsequent industry recovery. The Supervisory Board's resolution will see the Executive Board shrink from six to five members, aligning with the Group's vision for a leaner, more focused leadership structure.

Effective June 30, 2024, current members Christina Foerster, Harry Hohmeister, and Detlef Kayser will depart from their roles, followed by Remco Steenbergen on May 7, 2024. The restructuring introduces Grazia Vittadini and Dieter Vranckx to the Executive Board, with appointments starting July 1, 2024. Vittadini will take on the role of Chief Technology Officer, overseeing Technik, IT, and Sustainability, while Vranckx, currently CEO of Swiss International Air Lines, will handle Global Markets and Commercial Steering Hubs.

Karl-Ludwig Kley, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, praised the outgoing members for their exceptional contributions during one of the industry's most tumultuous periods. He emphasized the solid foundation the Group stands on today, thanks to the Executive Board's efforts.

In the interim, Michael Niggemann will serve as CFO, in addition to his current responsibilities, until a permanent Chief Financial Officer is appointed. This transition not only signifies a strategic shift in leadership but also underscores the Group's commitment to embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead with a refreshed and dynamic Executive Board team.

The reorganization reflects Lufthansa Group's ambition to continue evolving in response to the changing dynamics of the aviation industry. With a mix of seasoned leaders and new perspectives, the Group is poised to navigate the complexities of the global market, emphasizing teamwork and innovation across its operations.
