LOT and Thai Airways plan codeshare partnership for summer 2027

LOT and Thai Airways plan codeshare partnership for summer 2027

LOT Polish Airlines and Thai Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a codeshare partnership covering selected destinations in Europe, Asia and Oceania.

The agreement, announced on October 14, coincides with the inauguration of LOT’s Warsaw–Bangkok route. The airlines plan to offer their first codeshare journeys from the start of the 2027 summer season, subject to regulatory approval.

The proposed arrangement will build on an existing interline agreement, which already allows passengers to combine flights operated by the two carriers within a single journey.

Warsaw–Bangkok route provides a basis for closer cooperation

LOT’s new direct service between Warsaw and Bangkok creates opportunities for onward connections through Thai Airways’ network, while also giving passengers travelling from Asia more options to reach Poland and other European destinations.

The airlines said the partnership is intended to support both leisure and business travel between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. They have not yet announced the individual routes that will be included.

“Thai Airways is a natural partner for us in achieving this goal. Together, we can leverage the strengths of both networks while also encouraging passengers from Asia to discover Poland,” said Robert Ludera, Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer at LOT Polish Airlines.

Ludera signed the memorandum alongside Kittiphong Sansomboon, Thai Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer.

What the codeshare will mean for passengers

Under the planned arrangement, selected flights operated by one airline will also be sold under the other carrier’s code and flight number. This will expand the connections available through each airline’s booking channels and make it easier to find itineraries combining their services.

Passengers can already travel on combined LOT and Thai Airways itineraries through the existing interline agreement. The codeshare will add a closer commercial relationship between the airlines rather than introduce connecting journeys for the first time.

“LOT’s new Warsaw–Bangkok service creates a strong platform for us to build on our existing relationship and take it a step further,” said Sansomboon.

“Through the planned codeshare partnership, we see an opportunity to make travel between Europe and Asia more accessible, while giving passengers more options to discover destinations across both regions.”

Star Alliance benefits already apply

Both airlines are members of Star Alliance, meaning eligible passengers can already earn miles on qualifying LOT and Thai Airways flights.

Star Alliance Gold members can also access benefits such as airport lounges, priority services and additional baggage allowances, subject to the relevant conditions.

The next steps are to sign a formal codeshare agreement and complete the technical and operational preparations needed for launch. The planned summer 2027 introduction remains subject to regulatory approval.
