London Gatwick Speeds Up Security for Summer 2025

London Gatwick is set to handle 900 flights a day during peak August weekends as millions of passengers travel for the summer holidays. To help ease congestion, the airport has rolled out new CT scanner technology allowing passengers to leave laptops and liquids (up to 100ml) in their bags, enabling 95% of travellers to clear security in under five minutes.

 

Gatwick will serve 224 destinations across 59 airlines this summer, including 160 short-haul services with top spots like Malaga, Barcelona, and Palma de Mallorca, and 54 long-haul routes to destinations such as Dubai, Shanghai, and Orlando. The busiest days are expected on 3, 10, and 17 August.

South Terminal Transformation

Passengers departing from the South Terminal will now enjoy a £7 million refurbished lounge featuring:

• Expanded seating areas and quiet zones

• Improved lighting and interior design

• A relocated Special Assistance Lounge with new seating, planting, flooring, and perimeter screens for improved comfort and accessibility.

Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey

• Plan ahead: Check roadworks and rail disruptions before travelling.

• Book parking in advance via Official London Gatwick Parking.

• Prepare for security: Keep electronics and 100ml liquids inside your bag.

• Book assistance: Request special assistance at least 48 hours in advance.

• Arrive early: Three hours before long-haul, two hours before short-haul flights.
