Kayak’s new “Rendezvous” tool makes it easy to plan trips with your faraway loved ones

News

Separated from your loved ones? Kayak's new tool is here to help you out.

Long distance relationship? Too complicated process to organize a Valentine’s Day trip? Or maybe you just have some loved ones living far away from where you’re staying and you can’t seem to decide on which destination is the best to choose for both sides.

The travel fare aggregator launched Rendezvous earlier this week, a tool that helps people in two different cities find the cheapest place to meet up.

To use, just enter the two cities of departure and your desired dates of travel.

Kayak then calculates the best, most affordable cities where you should meet up, determined by the combined lowest airfare cost.

The idea it to make planning your getaway easy, even though you’re coming from two different parts of the world, or in some cases, even the opposite parts of a country.

In honor of Valentine's Day, Kayak has just debuted its new "Rendezvous" tool, which suggests the cheapest destinations for long-distance couples to meet as determined by combined ticket costs

You simply enter both of your home cities and travel dates into the tool, and it will suggest suitable and affordable destinations for you to meet.

Once a user sees a destination of interest, they can easily search for their own flights, or flights for their traveling partner, making it easy to book trips not only between long distance couples, but also for anyone who has friends and family that live in a different location.

To give an example, a current search on Rendezvous for one person from New York City trying to meet another who lives in Austin shows Fort Lauderdale as the cheapest destination, with a combined price of 217$ for both flights. Results will of course fluctuate depending on the time of the search, but the tool is another way the search engine is making it simpler for those looking to plan trips with others to find options that are desirable and affordable.

The idea was inspired by research that indicated that 28% of Americans have been in a long-distance relationship, and of that number, 53% have stayed together.

Obviously, the Rendezvous tool is good for more than just planning a romantic getaway with your love interest—it means deciding where to go with a family member or friend no longer requires multiple searches and the organizational skills of Marie Kondo.

This isn't the first ingenious travel feature Kayak has added to its site. The booking side will also reveal hidden bag fees on a fare, and lets you secretly plan your vacation at the office by adding a tool to make it look like you're working - even as you find that flight deal that'll get you as far away from your desk as possible.
