Jill Biden to visit Romania and Slovakia
The First Lady’s trip this week will be part of the mission that supports Ukrainian refugees fleeing their homes due to the Russian invasion.
During her visit, Jill Biden will meet government officials and members of the United States military deployed in the two countries.
The first lady’s first stop will be at Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase in Romania on Friday, May 6, followed by the Romanian government on Saturday. Besides meeting with the government’s officials, she also plans to encounter humanitarian aid workers and educators. According to the data released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Romania has welcomed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees since the war started on February 24.
On May 7, Jill Biden will arrive in Bratislava, Slovakia, for talks with the staff of the local United States embassy, followed by official visits to Kosice and Vysne Nemecke, as well as meetings with the members of the country's government. Slovakia has opened its borders to more than 350.000 Ukrainians.
The First Lady will end her visit and return to the United States on May 9.
