Italy confiscates €143m worth villas and super-yachts
According to Italian foreign minister Luigi Di Maio, the authorities in the country have began seizing villas and yachts belonging to Russian oligarchs.
“We must be able to stop Putin's attack, bringing him to the table, and he won't go with niceties,” Minister Di Maio commented.
So far, the Italian financial police has confiscated €143 million worth of super-yachts and luxury villas located in Tuscany and Sardinia, owned by five Russian billionaires. Vladimir Soloviev and Alisher Usmanov were among the sanctioned oligarchs.
Prime Minister Mario Draghi declared during a recent press conference:
“I’d really like to see similar measures taken by all of our countries. Now we must be rapid in the implementation of this.”
France and Germany have also implemented the sanctions, with French officials seizing a super-yacht owned by oligarch Igor Sechin, the CEO of Rosneft, and Germany currently implementing “swiftly and effectively” sanctions plan in order to reinforce the decisions that the EU announced on 28 of February.
