Israel awaits tourists with new hotel openings and upgrades
According to the Israel Ministry of Tourism, visitor arrival numbers this year are close to the record-breaking summer of 2019.
Israel has experienced an exponential month after month increase in visitor numbers since reopening during this year’s March. Officials expects growth to surpass same numbers in 2019. During June 2022 alone, the country welcomed 112.7k North American tourists only (one day visitors and cruise passengers not included).
Eyal Carlin, Tourism Commissioner for North America, declared:
"We are thrilled that travellers from all over the world are eager to visit Israel again; ever since our total reopening to all travellers, we are seeing an influx of visitors.
"With new hotels, restorations and renovations to many historical sites, new tour offerings, and new restaurants in every region we are seeing that the demand to visit Israel is very high - and with all the amazing things to do in Israel, there's never been a better time to visit."
Tourist arrival from Canada numbers are also on the rise. Gal Hana, Director Counsel of Canada for the Israel Ministry of Tourism, added:
"It's exciting to see continuous growth in travel to Israel from the Canadian market. With a number of upgrades in accessibility, hotel openings, and of course the natural beauty of the country Israel should be at the top of everyone's travel list this year!"
With increasing tourism numbers, the country aims to remain focused on further developing the industry, so officials have announced a round of tourism sector improvements this year, as follows:
- 107 tourism investors and entrepreneurs have asked for grants from the Ministry of Tourism to build new hotels, Ministry of Tourism and the Investment Administration announced. Funds accounting for NIS 165 million ($49 million) will be granted in order to support existing plans.
- several hotel has been launched during the past 6 months, with more to come this year and during 2023, such as Six Senses Shaharut, Brut Brown Hotel, The David Kempinski Tel Aviv, Nobu Hotel Tel Aviv, Isrotel's Port Tower Hotel and Alberto Tel Aviv.
- Israel offers thousands of free public guided tours again every day, as more than 1,800 tour tourism guides are ready to welcome visitors for English, Russian, French, Arabic and Hebrew-guided tours all over the hottest destinations in the country.
- more than over 300 wineries, breweries, distilleries, restaurants and more will open their doors in 2022 for both locals and international tourists.
- Accessibility in the Old City accessibility has increased, thanks to the new streets, alleyways, hand railings and ramps installed in the location. Moreover, Step-Hear app is ready to assist visually impaired tourists while visiting the amazing sites here.
- $35 million infrastructure upgrades for the Western wall were recently approved, as work at the iconic site in progress. In addition, officials have announced plans for improving public transportation accessibility, as well as continue educational and development programs.
Moreover, Tel Aviv Pride 2022 brought more than 10K tourists to the country this year, with over 170.000 people participating in the Pride parade only.
New flight routes will also be available for international travellers, with more flights from Miami to Tel Aviv by American Airlines, Boston-Tel Aviv by El Al and non stop service from Boston to Tel Aviv by Delta.
