Following the killing of at least eight people and the injuring of eleven, the US city is currently under alert.

The attack happened in the proximity of the World Trade Center, yesterday, November 1st.

After a rental van driven into a pedestrian path by an armed man shot by the Police, local authorities in New York have decided to treat the incident as an act of terror.

As a result, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has released a travel warning for tourist aiming to visit the city.

“Following an incident involving a vehicle hitting a number of people in Lower Manhattan, local authorities have advised avoiding the area of West Street (Barclay Street to Christopher Street) in Manhattan due to the ongoing investigation. Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in the USA. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.”

Despite fatalities and enhanced security measures in the area, flights to New York will continue on a normal day-to-day basis. Meanwhile, the FBI and the New York City Police Department are conducting intensive investigations over the incident.

The attack in New York was similar to the violent events in Europe everyone is concerned about during the last years.

For security reasons, tourists here are advised to pay caution when visiting crowded city-spots, have travel insurance and follow the rules imposed by the local authorities if circumstances demand it.
