Immigration website of Canada crashed after US elections
According to Google data, searches for ‘move to Canada’ massively increased during last night. The idea of Americans relocating in Canada if Trump wins the presidential elections has been circulating among some of the US citizens ever since the beginning of the electoral race.
The island of Cape Breton on Canada’s Atlantic coast is considered to be the perfect place for Americans aiming to take refuge from Trump’s politics as The President of the United States.
As Donald Trump took the lead in several major states, such as Florida and Ohio, the main immigration site in Canada was overwhelmed by requests from Americans looking for information on moving to Canada. In the middle of the US elections’ night, the website crashed due to unprecedented traffic. Users were welcomed by an internal server error message when trying to enter the Citizenship and Immigration Canada platform.
People reacted on main social platforms and tweeted #MeanWhileInCanada messages. In response, the official Canada Twitter account posted: “In Canada, immigrants are encouraged to bring their cultural traditions with them and share them with their fellow citizens.”
