Hornblower Energy to construct hydrogen fuelling station for maritime transportation
Maritime transportation in the United States will benefit the first zero-carbon hydroelectric energy station starting the completion of the project in 2025. The concept will use green hydrogen fuelling vessels, obtained from water electrolysis.
The finances were granted by the DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy (EERE) and Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office.
Kevin Rabbitt, Hornblower Group’s CEO, declared:
“With Hornblower Group’s long-standing environmental record of developing ways and resources to implement green practices, I am incredibly proud of the work our team has put forward in leading this next phase of hydrogen fuelled technology. As we continue our efforts to position Hornblower as a Global Leader in Experiences and Transportation, this industry-first fuelling station proves our commitment to investing in new and innovative technologies within the maritime industry and beyond.”
By focusing on zero-emission energy sources, the project is part of the company’s efforts of developing new sustainable practices across the maritime industry, in order to combat climate change and reduce use of fossil fuel.
“With a global fleet of more than 200 vessels with additional vehicle and bus operations, this new undertaking builds upon our broad category of results-oriented consultation and operational services and environmental engagement. We appreciate the leadership and support from the DOE in demonstrating and supporting promising green energy projects like ours”, added Cameron Clark, chief strategy and business development officer at Hornblower Group.
The latest project is also sustained by public and private sector industry leaders, including Sandia National Laboratories, the Port of San Francisco, Air Liquide, BayoTech Group, Nel Hydrogen, Inc. and Glosten.
