Honouring IWD At The ITB Berlin 2023 Trade Show

On March 8, in honour of International Women's Day, ITB Berlin, the biggest B2B tourism trade exhibition in the world, will include a number of events promoting gender equality.

“Gender Equality: Tourism as a door opener for female empowerment & the role of gender equality in addressing the climate crisis” will be one of the topics at the ITB Berlin Convention's Diversity & Inclusion at ITB's Green Stage, just the day before IWD.

The forum will discuss whether or not tourism can play a role in furthering the empowerment of women throughout the globe and driving emancipation, and whether or not greater gender equality can aid in the battle against the climate problem.

Also, on March 8th, the finalists of the International Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism challenge will be celebrated at a special ceremony at the ITB Berlin convention centre. The fifth annual Celebrating Her gala is set to take place only a few hours later at the same location.

Women in the tourist industry will be recognised at this event, co-hosted by ITB Berlin and the Indian division of the International Institute for Peace in Tourism (IIPT), with a small installation including photos of past awardees. After the discussion, the NGO Equality in Tourism in partnership with ITB Berlin, will deliver the prize for Gender Equality Champion of the Year.

The purpose of this year's events and awards is twofold: first, to recognise achievements; second, to motivate further development and urge tourist businesses to include gender equality into their policies and the general workplace culture.

The "Open for Change" theme for the business-to-business ITB Berlin 2023 event will run from March 7 to 9, 2023. Alongside the expo, the prestigious ITB Berlin Convention will be hosted at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, with chosen seminars being broadcast live on ITBxplore.
