Hanoi Takes Steps To Maximize The City's Golf Potential
Hanoi is taking several steps to develop golf tourism into one of its trademark industries because of the city's widespread belief in the golf industry's promising future.
Currently, a total of five golf courses and ten golf practice facilities can be found in the nation's capital. Golf guests have access to a hotel infrastructure that is highly advanced and varied, including hotels from reputable chains like JW Marriott, Sheraton, and Metropole among the more modest establishments.
Golf tourism, according to Vietnam's Deputy Tourism Director Nguyen Hong Minh, is one of the country's most promising high-end offerings, and it has the potential to draw in high-spending visitors from outside, as golf courses in the area are consistently rated as some of the best in the world by both professionals and amateurs alike.
Golf tourism, is contributing to the growth of the tourism industry in Vietnam and Hanoi particularly, mostly because of the influx of tourists from the Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United States, and Europe.
Nevertheless, recent workshops and debates among experts have shown that Hanoi is not appealing enough to domestic golf visitors due to its small number of golf courses and exorbitant prices. Meanwhile, most courses continue to operate autonomously, with no means of communicating with one another or with travel agencies. According to the local newspaper Ha Noi Moi, the lack of qualified employees with golfing experience is also a problem.
In order for Vietnam and Hanoi's golf tourist industry to be competitive, a dedicated business framework is required. In order to increase attendance, golf course managers should improve connectivity and host more regional, national, and international tournaments. Moreover, in order to attract tourists who are interested in doing more than just playing golf, Phung Quang Thang, Chairman of the Hanoi branch of the Vietnam Society of Travel Agents, has called for the development of more high-quality experiences and related recreational activities. He also mentioned how important it is for golf courses to work with tourist businesses to provide unique and interesting offerings for visitors.
Hanoi should build infrastructure to host world professional golf tournaments, according to Graham Cooke, president of the World Travel Awards, who visited Vietnam in 2022 and recommended that such events be conducted near hotels meeting international standards and other popular tourist attractions.
According to the local authorities, golf tourism would become one of Hanoi's most prominent offerings in the future, as officials will collaborate to increase promotion of this sport and host prestigious golf tournaments in an effort to entice more visitors, particularly from abroad.
