State Department advises Americans to avoid all travel in the area, due to “increased threats” from terrorist groups in Turkey. While Turkey is monitored for “recurring threats, a visible increase in police or military activities, and the potential for restrictions on movements”, the US State Department has reissued the travel warning urging its citizens to stay away from the area.

“US citizens should carefully consider the need to travel to Turkey at this time. In addition, we have recently experienced delays securing consular access to US citizens, some of whom also possess Turkish citizenship, detained or arrested by security forces,” the official warning quotes.

The recent warning came after Turkey has engaged into military operations inside Syria, against ISIS and the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). Deadly terrorist attacks inside Turkey have also been reported during last week.

According to official sources, President Barack Obama will meet Recep Tayyip Erdogan this week in China during the Group of 20 summit talks, where intensive discussions on the counter-Islamic State campaign in Syria are expected.

Earlier this year, the State Department and the Pentagon have issued firm orders for the US diplomats, military forces and their families to leave their posts in Turkey due to high security risks in the area.
