The Flughafen Wien Group — comprising Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, and Kosice Airport — handled 3,912,644 passengers in May 2026, a modest increase of 0.7% compared to the same month in 2025, with contrasting performances across its three airports.
Vienna Airport recorded a 5.4% decline to 2,743,817 passengers, with the fall attributed to reduced low-cost carrier capacity and the ongoing impact of the Middle East crisis on flight volumes. Flight movements at Vienna fell 6.5% to 20,414 take-offs and landings, while cargo dropped 4.2% to 26,761 tonnes. The seat load factor improved by 1.4 percentage points to 80.5%.
By destination, Middle East traffic from Vienna plunged 59.7% to 27,220 passengers, while Far East routes grew 15.6% to 55,780 travelers. Western Europe traffic held broadly steady at just over one million passengers (+0.8%), and North America edged up 1.1% to 41,374 passengers. Eastern Europe fell 16.4% to 209,782 travelers.
Malta Airport delivered strong growth, with passenger numbers rising 16.5% to 1,080,966, while Kosice Airport recorded a 57.2% surge to 87,861 passengers.
For the January–May 2026 period, the group as a whole grew 2.4% to 15,936,081 passengers, though Vienna Airport’s year-to-date figure fell 2.5% to 11,435,310 travelers.
