Fashion Week opened this Thursday in New York
Fashion week that opened this Thursday in New York is considered to be one of the most prestigious events of this kind and more, an incredible trip into a world where style and trends are constantly changing, where there are no certainties and also where famous designers meet new daring and young fashion creators, writes AFP.
Judging by numbers, Fashion Week in New York is a successful event: more than 80 parades and presentations in the official program and dozens in the outskirts of the event, 1,500 accredited journalists and 100,000 professionals are expected to be part of this amazing fashion celebration. Even though it is a showcase of ready-to-wear, not couture collections, New York is becoming an indispensable place for the fashion sector.
The economic impact for the city during the two annual Fashion Weeks represents about 900 million dollars, according to a recent report. But behind these raw data, the week faces an unprecedented existential crisis. Pressed by the general public but also by anxious consumers, many fashion houses have decided to put up for sale some of the collection immediately after the presentation. Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg Rebecca Minkoff decided to broke the tradition that imposed a six month delay between the presentation and the selling of the collection.
More, the fashion world is undergoing a transformation in the parades as the main element of attraction. Derek Lam, Sophie Theallet, Diane von Furstenberg and Kate Spade gave up parades, for presentations (not marching mannequins, but still ones that can be tracked over time) with a more restricted access.
Rebecca Minkoff will present his collection in the street in front of Soho shops, following the example of the Xuly.Bë Company. More and more fashion houses decided to rely more on happening kind of events than on the formal type.
