Europe: a global favorite holiday destination

News

With 671 million international arrivals in 2017, the European continent holds the first position in the world’s more visited destinations top.

As the recent “European Tourism 2017– Trends & Prospects” report indicates, Europe remains the world’s favorite destination thanks to considerable economic growth and a significant decrease in concerns regarding security levels connected to imminent terrorist threats.

The increase in tourist arrivals was spectacular for destinations like: Turkey (28 per cent increase), Iceland (24 per cent increase), Southern/Mediterranean Europe Montenegro (plus 19 per cent), Serbia (plus 18 per cent), Malta (plus 16 per cent), Slovenia and Cyprus (with a 15 per cent increase).

According to the ETTP 2017 report’s data, Finland registered a 14 per cent growth with Chinese and Indian arrivals fueling the numbers.

Also, Croatia (14 per cent growth), Portugal (12 per cent) and Spain (9 per cent) got the attention of international tourists, due to improved air connectivity and in spite some major tensions in some of the areas.

Other reasons attributed to the highest ranking are considered to be: a stronger U.S. dollar, competitive airfares and strong markets such as U.K., France and Germany becoming stronger. Moreover, Citizens from Russia and China also preferred to visit Europe more often when compared to 2016.
