Rania Al-Mashat is the new tourism minister of Egypt, as the country’s making efforts to recover its travel industry.

Al-Mashat will be the first woman ever holding the tourism minister position in the country, as Egypt has already appointed five more ministerial roles to women.

The new minister will be taking the place of Yahya Rashid, who replaced Hisham Zaazou in March 2016. Former senior economic adviser at the International Monetary Fund and deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, Ms. Al-Mashat is expected to deliver positive economic and political results, as she significantly contributed to boost the country’s monetary policy during the reform implemented after 2011.

The new tourism minister graduated from the American University in Cairo and got a master and a PhD from the University of Maryland-College Park in the US in 2011.

As Egypt plans to get back its tourism industry flow from the past, Al-Mashat is expected to implement reliable strategies and campaigns in order to boost the country’s popularity again, attract new investors and develop new niches for both tourists and travel industry employees.
