easyJet Digitizes Onboard Aircraft Technical Logs to Cut Paper Use

Transition to Digital Reporting
Streamlining Operations and Reducing Waste
EasyJet is set to replace the traditional paper-based Technical and Cabin Logs with a new e-techlog system from Ultramain. This transition will apply to the airline’s 346 Airbus A320 family aircraft by the end of 2025. The initiative will not only save a significant amount of paper but also enhance operational efficiency for flight crew, cabin crew, and engineering teams.
Environmental and Operational Benefits
By eliminating the need for paper records, easyJet expects to save more than 300,000 sheets of paper each year. The e-techlog system will also reduce the aircraft’s weight, contributing to lower fuel consumption and a smaller environmental footprint.
Enhanced Efficiency and Reduced Delays
Real-Time Reporting and Maintenance
The new digital system will enable real-time reporting and maintenance updates, streamlining the process and reducing ground delays. This will lead to greater aircraft availability and fewer disruptions for passengers. EasyJet’s Chief Operating Officer, David Morgan, highlighted that the technology will improve reporting processes and enhance the overall travel experience for customers.
Innovative Solutions for Aviation
The e-techlog system will be integrated into operational iPads accessible to easyJet personnel both on the ground and in the air. This will allow crew and engineers to share maintenance issues in real-time, enabling prompt ordering of parts and minimizing operational downtime. The interactive cabin map feature will further aid engineers in quickly identifying and resolving issues.
Partnership with Ultramain
A Collaborative Effort
Mark McCausland, President and CEO of Ultramain Systems, expressed excitement about partnering with easyJet. He praised easyJet’s commitment to innovation and efficiency, emphasizing the mutual benefits of transitioning to a paperless operation.
Future of Aviation Technology
Once fully implemented, the e-techlog will support easyJet’s goal of achieving more efficient and environmentally friendly operations. This move is a significant step towards a more sustainable future in aviation, setting a precedent for other airlines to follow.
