Covid - No Longer A Worldwide Health Crisis
WHO has instructed its member governments to stop requiring vaccinations for overseas travel.
The announcement arrives after three years since the initial declaration of the crisis, which was made in January 2020, and one week before the United States will lift its designation as being in a state of public health emergency due to the Covid-19 virus, which will take effect on May 11. Along similar lines, the Biden administration also decided to no longer mandate vaccinations for international arrivals as of the same day.
According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, the virus has seen a "downward trend" for over a year now. Although he emphasized that Covid still remained a hazard, the World Health Organization reported that "high population-level immunity from infection, vaccination, or both" had led to a dramatic decrease in Covid-related fatalities and admissions to hospitals around the world.
In addition, there is little evidence that the currently-known variations contribute to a more severe disease. According to Ghebreyesus, most nations have returned to a normal lifestyle because of these tendencies in recent months.
The World Health Organization estimates that there have been more than 765 million cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, with approximately 7 million fatalities caused by the virus.
