Chinese tourists started preferring more expensive holidays

News

According to latest data from Ctrip, international high-cost leisure destinations have slowly become more popular among Chinese citizens.

As researched by the agency, the top 10 most expensive travel destinations in the world (Antarctica, Argentina, Brazil, Tahiti, Norway, Tanzania, Iceland, Mexico, New Zealand and Finland) have been often chosen by Chinese leisure travelers, with spendings ranging from 100,000 yuan per family and 160,000 yuan per person.

While the preferences changed, so did the number of tourists visiting, for example, Antarctica, the most expensive hot-spot of the planet. According to the Ctrip’s report, Chinese travelers’ numbers doubled for this destination, due to the visitors’ desire of something new and exciting to see.

"More Chinese tourists are pursuing personalized, tailored and quality travelling experiences, resulting in more bookings to exotic destinations, reflecting their rising purchasing power and evolving tastes," commented Dai Bin, CEO of the China Tourism Academy.

With the upcoming Spring Festival break, it is expected that Chinese tourists will intensively travel abroad. The forecast spending per person is an average of 9,500 yuan for regular destinations.

Nevertheless, destinations such as the United States, Italy, Vietnam and the Philippines will be up to 10 per cent cheaper for travelers from China, because of the appreciation of the national currency (the yuan).

According to Peng Liang from Ctrip, the best moment of purchasing flight and accommodation tickets for Chinese visitors is five days ahead or three days after the Lunar New Year on Feb 16th.

So, if a Chinese, get your luggage packed and enjoy your magnificent cheaper abroad holiday this year!
