Lake Poopó to Completely Vanish

More than a month before, the scientist made a hard announcement for Bolivia, as its second largest lake,Lake Poopó, has totaly evaporated. The authorised persons say that this is not only a local phenomena, but a more and more powerful process worldwide. Lake Poopó was a saltwater lake located in the heights of Andes Mountains and suffered from permanent changes as from 2015 its water started vanishing day by day.
The reasons for this phenomena were on the one hand the fact that the water levels sometimes fluctuated due to drought or seasonal conditions and on the other hand the climate change that has led to more and more years without rain, so the lake gradually continued to shrink.
It was not before this fall that there still water in the lake, but unfortunately the powerful meteorological phenomenon caused by the climate changes and known as El Niño has greatly contributed to the drying of the giant lake. More than that in the entire Bolivia, El Niño caused far less rain than usual to fall.
The effect on the local wildlife and the surrounding community has been nothing short of devastating. Since late 2014, millions of fish have been killed off, along with an estimated 500 birds that made the lake their home. The crisis is so bad that Bolivian lawmakers have declared the area a disaster zone.
The impact on the local untamed life and over encompassing communities has been truly powerful and unstoppable. As a result, from late 2014, a large number of fish have been found dead, alongside an expected number of 500 birds that use to relate to the lake as their home. As a link, the comunity was also devasteted. As the locals were mainly fishermen, they started to move to richer arias. Also, the activities of the local mining companies were stopped because of the water shortages. The aria around the lake was declared a calamity zone.
NGOs and government are fighting to preserve their wild and untamed mountains, by desining more strong and active laws to protect their environment.
