Bengaluru Airport: Domestic Flights Now Available at Terminal 2

Bengaluru's brand-new Terminal 2 at Kemepegowda International Airport (KIA) has commenced services.
The sustainability-focused terminal officially opened on Sunday morning with Star Air performing the inaugural flight, a short service to Kalaburagi (GBI), which departed at 08:40. The Embraer regional jet was quick to turn and landed in Bengaluru at 11 :25.
Services launch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the 250,000-square-meter terminal in November 2022. Flights were originally scheduled to start in December, but were delayed by construction delays and moved to mid-January.
In its first months of operation, Terminal 2 will only operate domestic services. Star Air is the only airline currently operating from the terminal. AirAsia and Air India are expected to launch flights in the coming weeks. It is expected that the terminal can accommodate up to 25,000,000 passengers annually.
According to the Times of India Hari Marar, Bengaluru Airport CEO and managing director, celebrated the opening of the airport as a historic event.
"The new terminal will initially handle domestic operations, and other airlines will start operations within the next 15-30 days." T2 will become a fully domestic terminal at the end of March, and international operations will begin at the beginning of next year.
Future in Focus
The new, innovative and sustainable terminal in Bengaluru reflects the city’s status as the Garden City and Silicon Valley of India. The airport's unique interior and exterior combines technology and environmentalalism. It features garden-inspired decor and is surrounded by 10,000 square meters of green walls.
The garden theme is integrated into a long-term sustainability plan. The airport's solar panels, daylight harvesting and other energy saving measures have saved almost 25%. Six rainwater-fed, naturally filtered ponds collect water to supply the airport's water needs.
Bengaluru is changing the way its customers experience. The airport has a state-of the-art Digi Yatra biometric board system, which allows passengers to travel seamlessly using their faces.
Innovations and Culture
Terminal 2 has an extensive Art Programme that focuses on Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage. Sixty pieces are on display currently, including a suspended copper statue designed by Krishnaraj Chonat, MA Rauf’s Biri wall art and Dhaatu & Anupama Hosker’s wooden puppets. This makes for an unforgettable experience for anyone traveling through Bengaluru Airport.
The airport has partnered with Amazon Web Services to create a virtual BLR Metaport for those who wish to travel but can't fly. This immersive 3D experience lets users tour the airport from their smartphone or laptop. They can interact with staff and check in for flights. More information can be found at BLR Metaport.
