Bataclan concert hall reveals new façade

News

The Bataclan concert hall has unveiled its new facade almost a year after being one of the targets of the deadly attacks that killed 130 people in Paris. After months of renovation work, the name of the concert hall, in large, red letters, is back on top of the main entrance. The Bataclan will reopen on November 16 with a performance by British singer Pete Doherty.

The Paris mayor's office said commemoration ceremonies will take place on each site of the attacks Nov. 13 -the anniversary date- in the presence of victims' families. Eli Hodara, 19, who lives near the Bataclan, told The Associated Press, "Since November 13 it is quite something to everyday see the Bataclan closed and under reconstruction. And now that there is a renewal, that they are changing their logo, that shows that we are not holding on. Of course [the attacks] should not be forgotten, but we should continue to live and we should continue to use this hall for shows, concerts."

The new façade that has been unveiled Thursday is adorned with eight red letters, tilted slightly, forming the word "Bataclan". The inside aria of the hall is still under renovation and will be ready no earlier than November.

In December last year, administrators said they would reopen Bataclan as soon as possible after that terrible evening of 13 November, when terrorists belonging to ISIS stormed in the hall during a concert of the group Eagles of Death Metal, killing 90 people.

After Pete Doherty the famous Parisian scene will enjoy a recital of the French artist Laurent Garnier, the British Marianne Faithfull or the American band Nada Surf.
