Athens International Airport Joins Pharma.Aero
Pharma.Aero, the global collaborative platform for excellence in healthcare logistics, has announced that Athens International Airport (AIA) is now its newest member. AIA, the largest and busiest airport in Greece and the Balkans region, joins the ranks of Pharma.Aero’s esteemed network.
Strengthening the Mediterranean Footprint
Trevor Caswell, Chair of Pharma.Aero, welcomed AIA to the network:
“By integrating Athens International Airport into our collaborative network, Pharma.Aero not only acknowledges the airport's regional importance but also strengthens its footprint in the Mediterranean region. We are thrilled to collaborate and leverage our industry expertise to drive innovative projects that yield substantial value for our industry and enhance access to healthcare for people worldwide.”
Commitment to Excellence and Sustainability
Athens International Airport has been a pioneer in several initiatives, receiving its IATA CEIV Pharma certification in 2023. Since 2016, AIA has been the first carbon-neutral airport in Greece. Through its "Route 2025" initiative, AIA is committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2025, significantly ahead of the 2050 target set by ACI Europe. Additionally, AIA is the first European airport to launch multi-modal flows combining maritime, road, and air traffic.
Enhancing Cargo and Pharmaceutical Logistics
Cargo Development at AIA manages all freight and mail handling activities, coordinating the airport’s cargo community and spearheading new developments. Lina Palli, IATA CEIV Pharma Coordinator for the Athens Cargo Community, emphasized the importance of collaboration:
“At AIA we strongly believe in collaboration and synergies. By joining Pharma.Aero we will not only join an international network of experts and gain valuable knowledge that we can transfer to our local partners, but we will also support Pharma.Aero’s important mission of promoting a seamless pharmaceutical supply chain.”
