Prime Minister Manuel Valls announced this week that France will maintain the state of high alert during the European Football Championship. 2.5 million spectators are expected to attend the 51 matches of the Euro 2016 competition which will run from June 10 to July 10. The French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, added that anti-terror alert status is extended in June and July. The measure was taken to ensure security at the European Championship soccer tournament which begins on June 10 with the match France-Romania game that will be played at the Stade de France.

 

The announcement made by Prime Minister of France offers maximum power to the police and to the special security forces. Thus, the police is empowered to make searches in homes, detain suspects or place them under house arrest. France entered the state of alert after 130 people died from multiple terrorist attacks that took place in the capital Paris. On November 13, 2015, terrorists tried to enter the Stade de France, the stadium that will be held the opening game of the European Championship, France-Romania.

The Stade de France Stadium will be guarded by 1200 by security agents, while the rest of the stadiums will be guarded by 900 medium security agents, 200 volunteers and 80 doctors.

France estimates that at the 51 matches of the European Football Championship there will assist 2.5 million viewers. More, near the stadiums, special tents will be arranged for fans who could not buy tickets.
