Another Terrorist Attack Devastated Istanbul on Saturday
This Saturday a suicide attack caused panic in central Istanbul. At least five people died and 37 were injured after a terrorist detonated a bomb near Taksim Square, on a commercial pedestrian street which it is frequented daily by tens of thousands of people.
The attack occurs in the context of the celebration of the Kurdish New Year, on March 21, which usually raise concerns about intensifying violence. Another car bomb attack occurred last Sunday in Ankara, killing 37 people. The attack was claimed by a radical group of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, called the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks.
12 of the wounded in the bombing attack on the commercial pedestrian street Istiklal, are foreigners. Among the dead there are three Israelis and an Iranian, the Turkish media says. According to some preliminary conclusions, the responsible for this tragedy would be a member of the Kurdistan Workers Party, PKK, or an affiliated group. Turkish authorities say a suicide bomber intended to strike in a busiest area but he was diverted by police. At that point, the bomb was detonated as a fear reaction. Turkey CNN published a picture of the suspect before he detonated the bomb, surprised by a public camera.
Reuters reports that the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, declared on Saturday that his country's fight against terrorism will continue with "full force" after this suicide attack. More, Cavusoglu made these statements during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart in Istanbul, Javad Zarif, who is in an official visit in Turkey.
Just this year, four terrorist bombings killed more than 80 people and injured hundreds. On January 12, in Istanbul there were killed 12 people. On February 17, in Ankara, an attack killed 30 people and the next day six people lost their lives in Diyarbakir. This month, on March 13, in Ankara the terrorists killed 37 people.
