Americans to reconsider European travel this year

Russian invasion in Ukraine has led Americans decide to avoid visiting areas with potential conflict risk, despite tourism recovery forecast for 2022.

The spring season and the Covid-19-related relaxing regulations are expected to boost tourism this year. On the other hand, the situation in Ukraine has triggered Americans to reconsider their holiday plans across the European continent.

According to a recent survey by travel site The Vacationer, the Russian invasion in Ukraine will considerably affect travel decisions for holidaymakers. Here are the findings of the study:

- 39 percent of Americans surveyed stated that the war in Ukraine has led them to change travel plans for this year, with 14 percent also reconsidering domestic holidays and 25 percent only international visits. 61 percent of respondents declared that they are unaffected by the ongoing conflict in the area.

- almost 65 percent of participants declared available for various travel destinations changes, from price, to periods, fly connections, or even a totally different destination all together.

- 36 percent said air-travel feel less safe now when compared to the period prior to the Russian invasion.

Another MMGY Travel Intelligence survey had similar results:

- Americans are twice as likely to alter their European holiday plans now due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

- travellers from the US are more concerned about the war than about the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Europe.

- 47 percent of respondents will wait for the crisis in Ukraine to reach a more stable outcome before making holiday plans for this year.

- 50 percent acknowledged possible cancellations or delays in flights, trains or cruises schedules due to the current European crisis.

The favourite destinations for American travellers this year are Italy, France, the UK and Germany.
