American Visa Restrictions For Israeli Tourists Are Now Suspended

Destinations & Tourism

Israel joined the Visa Waiver Program, making it easier for Israeli residents and nationals to visit the United States for up to 90 days for business or tourism without a visa.

The acceptance came far sooner than expected, as authorities estimated a November 30 completion date when entrance to VWP was announced on September 27.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said that the country's acceptance into the Visa Waiver Program was an essential step ahead in the United States' strategic alliance with Israel, that would bolster established ties, bilateral trade, and security collaboration.

To participate in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), prospective visitors must be from a country that gives to U.S. citizens and nationals the advantages we would extend to their people and nationalities, as stated in a DHS news release.

People may apply for the program using the ESTA app or the ESTA website run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It might take up to 72 hours for the application to be approved.

Israeli nationals and residents need a biometrically equipped passport book to participate in the VWP program. The software is now only accessible in English, but translations into additional languages are planned for release on November 1.

This transition is happening as tensions in the Middle East rise. On Thursday, the casualty toll from Israeli and Palestinian forces crossed the 5,000 mark, making this the worst conflict in Gaza Strip history.
