American Airlines Resumes Northeast Flights After Winter Storm
American Airlines has restarted flight operations across the Northeast United States following the disruption caused by Winter Storm Hernando, which dumped heavy snow and affected travel across the region.
Flights resumed at key airports including John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) around midday, with service restarting later at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and other Northeast hubs. Earlier in the week, the storm forced extensive cancellations and delays as blizzard conditions brought deep snow and hazardous travel.
To support passengers whose plans were disrupted, American has added more than 4,000 additional seats, deploying larger aircraft and extra flights to and from major cities. The carrier has also upgraded some services with larger equipment to accommodate more travellers each day.
American’s Chief Operating Officer thanked airline staff and partners for their efforts in getting operations back on track quickly after the severe weather event. A travel alert remains in place, giving affected customers flexibility to change or reschedule travel through the airline’s website and mobile app.
The Northeast blizzard, part of a powerful winter storm system, brought widespread snow accumulations, strong winds and travel interruptions across states from Maryland to Maine, contributing to thousands of flight disruptions across the U.S. aviation network.
