Air India will transfer all of its flights serving Visakhapatnam to the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram from August 17, 2026.
The airline confirmed that services currently operating to and from Visakhapatnam International Airport will move to the newly opened airport while retaining the existing VTZ airport code.
Air India will continue to operate 14 weekly flights between Bhogapuram and Delhi, maintaining connections through its Delhi hub to destinations across India and its international network.
Air India Transfers Visakhapatnam Operations to Bhogapuram Airport
The move means passengers booked on Air India services serving Visakhapatnam from August 17 will use the new airport at Bhogapuram rather than the existing Visakhapatnam International Airport.
Despite the change in location, the airport code used for Air India flights will remain VTZ, helping maintain continuity across airline booking and reservation systems.
The relocation forms part of the transition of commercial aviation services to the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport.
Air India Maintains 14 Weekly Delhi Flights
Air India will maintain its existing schedule of 14 flights per week between Bhogapuram and Delhi following the move.
The service provides passengers from the Visakhapatnam region with onward connections through Delhi to domestic destinations as well as international markets served by Air India.
New Airport Offers Larger Passenger Terminal
Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport features a new passenger terminal covering approximately 77,342 square metres.
The facility has been designed to increase passenger capacity while introducing more automated check-in and baggage processing technology.
According to Air India, terminal facilities include:
- 22 traditional check-in counters
- 18 Self Baggage Drop units
- Advanced passenger screening systems
- Automated baggage handling facilities
- Seven aerobridges
The combination of conventional check-in desks and self-service baggage facilities is intended to reduce processing times and improve passenger flow through the terminal.
Bhogapuram Airport Becomes Air India’s New Gateway for Visakhapatnam
The opening of Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport provides the Visakhapatnam region with a new aviation gateway designed to accommodate future passenger growth.
For Air India passengers, the most immediate change will be the location of departure and arrival, with all of the airline’s VTZ services operating through Bhogapuram from August 17.
Travellers with upcoming Air India bookings to or from Visakhapatnam should therefore ensure they travel to Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram for flights operating from the effective date.
The airline’s Delhi frequency remains unchanged at 14 weekly services, preserving connectivity between the region and Air India’s wider domestic and international network.
