Air France backs youth art project in Brazil
A youth art initiative in northeastern Brazil has brought together traditional culture and contemporary expression to support young people in vulnerable communities.
The project, held between February and April 2026 in Juazeiro do Norte, involved around 30 participants aged 5 to 18. Through workshops focused on “cordel” – a traditional Brazilian art form combining poetry and woodcut engraving – the children developed creative skills, self-confidence and teamwork.
The sessions were led by local artists José Lourenço Gonzaga and Chico Bruno, under the supervision of the Asa Branca Educational and Cultural Association, with support from the Air France Foundation.
The initiative gained an international dimension with the participation of French mural artist Seth, who led a residency program alongside the workshops. Known for his work exploring childhood and imagination, Seth collaborated with the participants to create public murals that blend Brazilian cultural heritage with contemporary street art.
The project concluded with an exhibition of the participants’ work and the unveiling of the murals, highlighting both the region’s cultural richness and the achievements of the young artists.
Organizers said the initiative demonstrates how cultural projects can provide opportunities for expression and personal development, while strengthening ties between local communities and international partners.
