Air Baltic to operate Riga–Oulu route year-round
Air Baltic will continue operating its direct route between Riga and Oulu throughout the winter season, upgrading the recently launched service to year-round operations.
The connection, which began on March 30 as a summer route, has seen steady demand in its first weeks. Less than a month after launch, the airline confirmed it will maintain the route beyond the summer schedule, reflecting strong passenger interest.
The Riga–Oulu service plays a strategic role in expanding international accessibility for northern Finland. By connecting through Air Baltic’s hub in Riga, passengers from Oulu gain convenient access to more than 80 destinations across Europe and beyond, supporting both business and leisure travel.
The airline said the route strengthens regional connectivity and provides a fast and efficient alternative for travelers looking to reach major European cities without relying on longer transfer routes.
Airport operator Finavia welcomed the move, highlighting the importance of year-round air links for the region’s economy and tourism sector. Demand for travel to northern Finland typically increases during the winter months, driven by seasonal tourism and business activity.
Local stakeholders also see the route as a key driver of inbound travel, helping attract more international visitors to Oulu while improving outbound travel options for residents.
The decision to extend the route underlines broader trends in regional aviation, where airlines are focusing on strengthening secondary city connections through hub networks, improving overall connectivity across Europe.
