ADR and Too Good To Go Join Forces to Combat Food Waste at Rome Airports

Airlines & Airports

Aeroporti di Roma partners with Too Good To Go to introduce surplus food recovery initiatives at Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino and G.B. Pastine Ciampino Airports, aiming to save 12,000 meals by the end of 2024.

On Earth Day, Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), part of the Mundys Group, announced a new partnership with Too Good To Go, the world's largest marketplace for surplus food, to tackle food waste at Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport and G.B. Pastine Ciampino Airport. This initiative aligns with both organizations' commitment to environmental sustainability and will involve 32 food venues including Autogrill, Chef Express, Lagardère Travel Retail Italia, MyChef, and Venchi.

The collaboration aims to educate passengers and the airport community about the importance of reducing food waste and to promote the recovery of surplus food. By the end of 2024, the partnership expects to save 12,000 meals and reduce environmental impacts significantly — preventing over 32 tonnes of CO2 emissions, saving 9 million liters of water, and preserving 33,000 square meters of land.

Marilena Blasi, Chief Commercial Officer at Aeroporti di Roma, emphasized the collaborative spirit of the venture: "The strong spirit of cooperation that has always distinguished our relationships with our commercial partners has allowed us to reach this significant milestone. This is a further sign of our attention and care with regard to passengers and to the airport community that sees the airport as its home and will now enjoy an additional opportunity to help protect the environment by preventing food waste and actively participating in the sustainable values and policies of ADR and its partners.”

Mirco Cerisola, Italy Country Director of Too Good To Go, also shared his enthusiasm: “We are proud and excited about the partnership signed with Aeroporti di Roma. We are committed every day to making the prevention of food waste a good habit for everyone, everywhere. So we are very pleased to make it possible finally, for everyone setting off from the airports in Rome, to save food that is still good to eat.”

Passengers departing from Rome’s major airports can now purchase Too Good To Go 'Surprise Bags' at special prices from participating stores. These bags contain excellent products that would otherwise go to waste, offering travelers an eco-friendly choice that contributes to a sustainable travel experience.
