5 Stunning National Parks in New Zealand
Charge your phone, grab your bag and don’t forget the camera! You’re going to need all the technology you can get in order to picture the amazing views that these 5 national parks offer.
1. Fiordland National Park
Even though the name basically says it all, we can’t help but describe it a bit. This park is the most famous natural wonder in New Zealand and will definitely amaze you with its stunning fiords, ancient rainforests and mighty waterfalls. The park is located in the southwest corner of the South Island and hasn’t changed a bit from thousands of years ago. This is also a much recommended place for hikers, as hiking is a must-do activity around here.
2. Aoraki Mount Cook National Park
Don’t get scared by the 23 peaks that are over 10,000 feet high, as this park is still very accessible to the more novice adventurer. You can stay near Aoraki/Mt. Cook Village which is located beside the picturesque Lake Pukaki – definitely a great view! If you are not quite the hiker, you can stargaze in the park as the views are outstanding.
3. Nelson Lakes National Park
One of our team members actually went to Nelson Lakes National Park and had quite a few stories. Even though it does not feature majestic snow-capped peaks, it does offer enchanting landscapes of craggy peaks, forests and breathtaking glacial lakes. If you’re an outdoor fan, you will absolutely adore every minute spent here, as this place really makes you feel as if you’re in a fairytale.
4. Tongariro National Park
This is the country’s most contrasting landscapes. The park basically encircles the volcanoes of Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and Ruapehu. Here’s a little bit of history (not too much, we promise): Tongariro was offered as a gift to the island nation by Maori chef Te Heuheu Tukino IV back in 1887. Quite a gift, right? However, it also received the dual World Heritage Site status. So basically, it can’t disappoint you!
5. Mount Aspiring National Park
“Aspiring” comes from the fact that, well, this place inspires even the most hard-to-inspire-kind-of-people, okay? The beauty of this place is basically over the roof, with long river valleys and amazing mountains. Take valley walks, trek mountain trails and enjoy the clean, fresh air!
