21 feet tall sculpture exhibited at Tampa International Airport
The work welcoming travellers is called “Home” and has been imagined by artist Matthew Mazzotta. The giant flamingo will be displayed in the main terminal.
The sculpture is part of the airport's public art program featuring photographs, paintings, sculptures and other interesting exhibits set to entertain passengers arriving at Tampa International Airport.
The 21 feet tall flamingo immersing itself underwater was chosen from more than 700 exhibits.
"Tampa International Airport has always been a champion of iconic public art as a way to welcome our visitors and give them a sense of wonder and whimsy when they arrive in our beautiful region. We're certain that 'Home' will help create memories and inspire people of all ages who begin and end their travel journeys at TPA," commented Chris Minner, executive VP of marketing and communications at Tampa International Airport.
The airport in Florida is not the only hub willing to show art, as this is slowly starting to become a trend for terminals. Terminal B at New York's LaGuardia Airport also hosts several glass sculptures and exhibits connected to the city’s graffiti history.
“Home” by Matthew Mazzotta will be ready to be displayed to the public during this year’s late April or beginning of May.
