Airline Organizations Have United To Demand Standardized Slot Restrictions

The Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG) seek to guarantee a uniform, fair, and transparent process for allocating airport slots, and airlines throughout the globe have urged their respective governments to take action in this regard. With the WASG in place, airlines and airports have been better able to maximize the use of limited airport space, benefiting passengers by providing them with more frequent and regular service and allowing them to reach new markets.

Airline schedules might be disrupted, and the global connection, efficiency, competition, and choice that have defined the aviation sector in recent decades could be jeopardized if slot regulation continues to fragment. Governments must understand the need of harmonizing slot rules in accordance with the WASG as the number of slot-regulated airports continues to rise throughout the globe.

The announcement came at the 152nd Slot Conference, held this year in Dublin, Ireland. Representatives from over 200 airports that share slot coordination and over 215 different airlines were among the over 1,000 attendees at the Slot Conference.

Since 1948, this twice-yearly conference has been an important date in the aviation planning calendar, providing a venue for meeting for rapid-fire schedule optimization and the exploration of potential new routes and networks. The conference's focus is on helping airlines get slot times at coordinated airports that would allow them to provide the most convenient schedules to their passengers.

The next meeting will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on November 14-17, 2023.
