Kimpton Algarve So Rafael Atlántico Launches In Portugal

Hotels & Resorts

IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader of the hospitality industry, has signed Kimpton Algarve So Rafael Atlántico as the first Kimpton property in Portugal.

IHG already runs 93 hotels in the Luxury & Lifestyle division, with another 57 in the pipeline, and this new partnership will further strengthen the Kimpton brand's presence in the region.

The hotel, which will be operated under a franchise arrangement with Highgate Portugal and is scheduled to open in 2025, will have 149 guest rooms, over 1,300 square meters of conference space, and a number of dining and drinking establishments.

The property will provide guests with a comprehensive range of health and beauty services, including a spa, fitness centre, and swimming pools. The interior design idea is based on the colourful orange orchards, azueljos (tin-glazed tile works), and ceramics that are typical of the region.

The Algarve, in Portugal's far south, is a popular vacation spot due to the region's pleasant weather, beautiful scenery, and abundance of world-famous beaches. The hotel is only a short walk from Albufeira, a busy and old coastal resort town with whitewashed buildings, 18th-century churches, shops, and cafés.

IHG Hotels & Resorts' Vice President of Development in Europe, Willemijn Geels, said that the sign the first Kimpton hotel in Portugal marks an important milestone in the group's business history.

"We have focussed on building our presence in the country, especially in the Luxury & Lifestyle segment with our recently opened first Vignette Collection hotels in Lisbon and Porto which complement our three existing InterContinental properties and a Six Senses in Douro Valley.

“This signing shows the confidence that owners have in our Luxury & Lifestyle expertise, market knowledge and enterprise, as well as the appetite that guests have for the Kimpton brand. It promises to be a stunning hotel and we look forward to welcoming our first guests in 2025”, Geels added.

Alexandre Solleiro, CEO of Highgate Portugal, also declared that the Kimpton Algarve So Rafael Atlántico is a great addition to the country's hospitality hot sports, as the nation looks forward to continuing the brand's success in other European nations including Spain, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, while maximizing the value of this astonishing property.

Six Senses, InterContinental, Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express are only some of the IHG brands represented by IHG's 19 open hotels in Portugal. IHG now operates 66 hotels in Iberia, with another 26 in the planning stages.
