A New €49 Rail Ticket Gives You Unlimited Travel In Portugal

News

Looking for a rail adventure across Portugal? For only €49, you can ride the rails as much as you like throughout the country.

Portugal has jumped on the train craze with a new promotion this summer. Starting this August, residents of the European country could purchase a rail ticket for €49 per month that allows them unrestricted use of the country's rail system. The project follows the lead of other European nations like Germany and Spain which also offer discounted train rides. Travellers of any nationality may use it. Moreover, pass-holders are free to use their passes as often and for as long as they choose.

Almost all regional railway systems in Portugal accept the National Rail Pass from Comboios de Portugal (CP), the national rail operator. However, the Portuguese ticket is not valid on coaches or on intercity trains, despite being the same price as the German one. Porto, Lisbon, and Coimbra's urban networks are not included either. Neither the coastal region of Alentejo nor the area around Coimbra are included in the program.

Anyone with a CP client card may purchase a national rail pass to travel across Portugal. It costs €6 and may be ordered at any CP ticket office throughout the nation. You'll need a government-issued picture ID like a driver's license or passport and a passport-sized colour photo to buy a card.

The national rail pass is available for purchase on the 21st of each month for the next month and is good for travel during that month. In case of changing their mind, a full refund is available for all passengers.
