Rome Fiumicino Airport will undergo a programme of scheduled airfield upgrades from October 12, 2026, through February 2027. Airport operator Aeroporti di Roma said the airport will remain fully operational throughout the works, with take-offs and landings continuing as normal.
Announced on October 11, the programme will focus on infrastructure used for aircraft movements. The operator said the investment is aimed at maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency and operational quality.
Taxiway Bravo and aircraft manoeuvring areas to be upgraded
The main elements of the programme include the duplication of Taxiway Bravo and improvements to selected aircraft manoeuvring areas.
Taxiways connect runways with other parts of an airport, allowing aircraft to move between take-off and landing areas and their parking positions. The planned works will therefore address the infrastructure supporting aircraft movements on the ground.
Aeroporti di Roma has set out an overall construction period extending through February 2027, although its announcement did not provide individual completion dates for each element of the programme.
Airport to remain fully operational
During the works, take-off and landing operations will use the other available runways. Aeroporti di Roma said this arrangement will allow normal flight operations to continue while the upgrades are carried out.
For passengers travelling to or from Rome during the construction period, the central message from the operator is that Fiumicino will remain open and operational throughout the programme.
