Mallorca TIB bus strikes may disrupt travel from 18 July

Holidaymakers planning to use public buses to get around Mallorca this summer should prepare for potential disruptions, as TIB bus drivers plan to strike starting 18 July 2025. The strike could affect interurban routes across the island, including popular airport connections, unless a last-minute agreement is reached in ongoing mediation talks.

 

The industrial action, led by SATI, the main union representing TIB workers, comes after failed negotiations over pay and working conditions. Union leaders argue that wages have not kept pace with inflation and that staff are under increasing pressure during peak travel seasons.

Strike schedule and possible escalation

• 24-hour strikes are planned for 18, 21, and 23 July

• If no resolution is reached, an indefinite strike will begin on 25 July

The regional government may impose minimum service levels, meaning some buses will still operate, but services will likely be reduced. The strike coincides with Mallorca’s peak tourist season, when demand for affordable public transport is at its highest.

Airport bus routes among those affected

TIB’s interurban network includes crucial services between Palma Airport and top tourist areas such as Alcúdia, Cala Millor, Cala d’Or, and Peguera. These routes are widely used by visitors who choose not to rent cars during their stay.

EMT buses in Palma not affected

Travelers should note that EMT buses, which operate within Palma and also provide Route A1 service between the city and the airport, are not part of the strike. EMT operates independently of TIB and is expected to run on a normal schedule.

• Use EMT buses within Palma, as these are unaffected by the strike
