British Airways Reopens Newcastle Contact Centre After £17m Refit

British Airways has reopened its Newcastle contact centre at Bamburgh Court following a £17 million refurbishment, reinforcing the airline’s long-term commitment to the North East. The site, originally opened in 1992, is the larger of British Airways’ two UK-based contact centres and employs around 700 colleagues.

The refurbished facility houses UK Sales and BA Holidays, customer relations, accessibility services, social media operations, and digital delivery teams. A key addition is a new Learning Academy, a purpose-built space for immersive training designed around real operational and customer needs.

Alongside the physical investment, British Airways continues to develop regional talent through apprenticeship and early careers programmes. Since 2022, the airline has recruited three cohorts totaling 20 apprentices in Newcastle, with most progressing into permanent roles. A further 19 colleagues are currently undertaking internal apprenticeships covering leadership, operational management, and emerging areas such as data and AI.

“The reopening of our Newcastle contact centre marks an important milestone for British Airways and reinforces our long-standing commitment to the North East,” said Tim Monk, Director of Customer Care at British Airways. “We are proud of the opportunities we are creating for talent here — from apprenticeships and early careers programmes to ongoing development for our people.”
