Air France Becomes First Major EU Airline with Free High-Speed Wi-Fi

Air France has begun rolling out free high-speed Wi-Fi on board its aircraft, becoming the first major European airline to offer such a service across all travel classes. The move follows an announcement made in autumn 2024 and marks a significant step in the airline’s strategy to enhance passenger experience through innovation.
The airline has already equipped two Embraer 190s and two Airbus A220s with the new technology. An Airbus A350 will be the next to join the fleet, introducing the service on long-haul routes for the first time. Air France aims to have 30% of its fleet equipped by the end of 2025 and all aircraft covered by the end of 2026.
Passengers can access the service free of charge by logging into their Flying Blue account on smartphones, tablets, or laptops. The system supports multiple devices and enables real-time messaging, video streaming, gaming, and news access during flight. Customers without a Flying Blue account can create one on board at no cost.
The connectivity is powered by Starlink, SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit satellite network, which provides fast and stable internet with low latency.
This rollout also marks the first time Air France has extended full Wi-Fi capability to its regional aircraft. Until the full upgrade is complete, the airline will continue offering limited messaging connectivity on unequipped planes, free for Flying Blue members and as a paid option for others.
By partnering with Starlink and investing in fleet-wide coverage, Air France underscores its ambition to lead the European market in digital in-flight services.
