News

Wizz Air has announced a major expansion in Moldova, adding two new aircraft to its Chișinău base and becoming the country’s leading airline. The move will bring the number of based aircraft to five and introduce six new routes starting this December and next March.

The additional Airbus A320ceo aircraft will allow Wizz Air to launch direct flights from Chișinău to Hamburg, Frankfurt Hahn, Turin, Nice, Prague, and Copenhagen, while also increasing frequencies on popular routes including Brussels, Berlin, Paris, Bologna, and Barcelona.

Flights on the new routes start from €19.99, and tickets are already on sale via the Wizz Air website and mobile app. The expansion will offer over 3 million seats in 2026, Wizz Air’s largest capacity in Moldova to date.

Six New Routes from Chișinău:

  • Frankfurt Hahn (Mon, Fri) from 12 Dec 2025

József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said:
“With two more aircraft and new routes, we’re proud to be the number one airline in Moldova. We’re offering more choices, better connectivity, and new jobs for local communities.”

The Moldovan government welcomed the announcement, with Prime Minister Dorin Recean calling it a step toward “bringing Moldova closer to Europe.” Airport Director Sergiu Spoiala emphasized the importance of the partnership in expanding access across the continent.

The expansion is expected to generate 100 new local jobs and support economic growth through tourism and business travel. Wizz Air now operates 34 routes to 16 countries from Chișinău—its largest route network ever in the country.
